Archive of Our Own
Kallista is haunted by terrible, dark thoughts. Whispers echo in her muddled mind that she can't make sense of. Just who is she, and why does she think such horrific things? Why can't she remember any of her past before the nautiloid? Only one person seems to see through her carefully crafted facade - Astarion, the pale elf who she met only a few days ago.See tags on AO3.
Roleplay Guidelines
1. My Bluesky account for Kallista RP shenanigans is meant to be silly. RP Kallista is much more mischievous and social than how I originally created her. It is not canon to who she is in the world of BG3 or in any of the stories that I write.2. Anyone is welcome to interact with Kallista! She may be a grump sometimes, but she actually doesn't bite... Unless she's told to by her blood kin, Lady Megaera.3. If you wish for your character to be related to Kallista in some way, as she is a Bhaalspawn, please feel free to DM me on Bluesky so we can discuss the details.4. Please do not ship anyone with Kallista without talking to me first. She isn't exactly the "romantic" type, but it's something that can be discussed.5. Feel free to joke around with whatever Kallista's been up to in the Temple of Bhaal, outside the Banite offices, or around Baldur's Gate! Just please don't say she's murdered anyone unless she actually has.6. Please be respectful of my boundaries. If I ask you to stop something, especially with a /ooc in the post, then please understand I'm uncomfortable with continuing that particular line of roleplay any further.7. Remember that actions have consequences! If you do something to cross Kallista or someone close to her, don't expect her to stand idly by and just let it happen.8. To go alongside the above rule, I will absolutely not do anything to harm your character without your consent. Kallista may threaten violence against you, but I won't have her act on it without your express permission first!9. Please remember that I am just a disabled lady sitting behind a keyboard in my pajamas. Behind the character, I am a person just like you! Please treat me with the kindness and respect that you would want to be treated with.10. This isn't a guideline so much as a personal note, but just know that I have cherished the memories we've made together so far in our little corner of Bluesky. Finding Baldur's Gate 3 and the community surrounding it has brought so much joy and creativity back into my life. I am truly grateful to be able to share any experiences with you, IC or OOC!
NOTE: This section contains spoilers from the Dark Urge's story. Some parts are canonical to the lore of BG3, and some are creative liberties I took while I crafted Kallista.
Before the Nautiloid
The Bloody Beginning
Kallista was never what one might call “normal.” No, she was special from the moment she was born. Found in an abandoned house in the lower city with nothing but a note with her name, an older halfling woman called Leri took her in and cherished her. As the babe grew, Leri would notice some more unusual features about her adopted daughter. First, she was a natural born storm sorcerer who began to develop an affinity for magic in her toddler years. Next, at age four the child had a strange fascination with the macabre. She would use small animal carcasses as dolls, and eventually started killing different creatures she found around the city with a wicked grin on her lips. But due to Kallista’s disturbing habits, Leri just wanted to shelter her more from the evils of the realm. When Kallista was about seven years old, Leri was finally moved to bring her to a cleric of Ilmater after she found her daughter eating the innards of a rat. However, much to Leri’s dismay the cleric claimed nothing to be obviously wrong with Kallista, and presumed that she was cursed. He performed a spell to remove the binds any curses may have on the young girl, and Leri breathed a sigh of relief feeling as though her child could at last have a more typical life. If only she had known that would be her own downfall. That same night, Leri awoke to Kallista standing over her with a kitchen knife held between her small hands. This was no longer the girl she brought home all those years ago. This thing was barely a person at all. Kallista growled into the darkness her displeasure at her “mother” trying “fix her,” and before Leri could even try to explain, Kallista attacked. Despite Kallista’s small stature, Leri never stood a chance. The Flaming Fist sent to investigate the household stumbled into the master bedroom only to discover the tiefling child desecrating the corpse of her mother and eating her raw flesh. By then the guard was too late, for his fate was already sealed. Kallista’s head snapped towards him and she fixed her sanguine eyes on the Fist before she lunged, attacking them with the same knife and savagery that killed Leri. The bloody business handled, Kallista stumbled out of her home into the night with a throbbing headache. Her body spasmed wildly, and her muscles felt weak. To her surprise, a man clad in dark robes was outside waiting for her, extending a hand to the vicious little girl. “We have finally found you, Kallista. I was sent to bring you home into your father’s bloody embrace.” Though the tiefling was confused, she felt strangely compelled to follow this man. Afterall, what other choice did she have? Her head swam with questions to ask the man, but he refused to answer until they reached their destination. The robed stranger led her down deep into the sewers, through the undercity, and finally to the Temple of Bhaal where the followers of the Lord of Murder rejoiced at her “homecoming.” She met a strange butler named Sceleritas Fel who was assigned to her by her father, and he reveled in her first true sacrifices. It was then that she discovered why she seemed so different from everyone else - she was a Bhaalspawn, crafted directly from the God of Murder’s own disgraced flesh and blood. One of the last of her kind.
The God of Murder's Favorite
Bloodlust only became stronger in Kallista’s heart as shew grew into her teen and young adult years. In the beginning she was sacrificing innocents that were brought to her in the temple so the cultists could observe her. They didn’t let Kallista leave much, but she had her butler to keep her company and help her with anything she may have needed. Eventually, she started sneaking out into the sewers, and then the dark alleyways of the Lower City. It was in these places she felt she could truly be herself.Kallista would lie in wait during the night for unfortunates to come into her range. Drunks, homeless, refugees, anyone who stepped into the alley she was lurking in would become easy prey. Sometimes she would be quick with her killings, just trying to satisfy the voices in her head commanding her to cause bloodshed in her father’s name. Other times she would be patient, tearing the individuals apart meticulously. The gore fascinated her to no end, and brought her elation that she never felt at any other time.As her acts of violence became more and more frequent, Sceleritas Fel rejoiced. He would claim that Kallista’s father was so very pleased with her, and that she was quickly on her way to becoming his Chosen. One day he brought her the gift of a unique looking dagger - it was bright red in color, with a circular portion that portrayed the sigil of Bhaal. Sceleritas Fel called it “Bloodthirst,” and told her it was created by the blood of her father’s first kill. This became Kallista’s tool of choice when she committed her vile deeds, each killing becoming more satisfying than the last. The feeling was a high she chased everyday and her murders began stretching into the hundreds and beyond. This was how she became Bhaal’s most beloved - his Chosen. However, despite all the sacrifices she made and hard work she put in, there was always one that was jealous of her position - Orin the Red. Orin was a “sibling,” a fellow Bhaalspawn who would put a flare on her murders that Bhaal found unnecessary. Afterall, why should one play with their food? When Kallista rose to become Bhaal’s Chosen, Orin became more envious of her and began to seek Bhaal’s favor with even more enthusiasm. But try as she might, Orin could never surpass Kallista. Not without some creativity, at least.
